BROCKFEST is a celebration of young peoples’ musical journeys - featuring some of the 1800 artists who’ve sharpened their musical skill & stagecraft at JOM Junior & Youth Open Mic sessions across 8 years and the South London community who’ve helped make it happen - all for free.

JOM (organisers of BROCKFEST) are an all volunteer community group running free youth open mics at licensed music venues across South London. A typical session can last 8 hours feature 90 performers with a rolling audience of 350. The stages are fully equipped to provide great sound from soloists to fifteen piece bands. We’ve organised one-hundred open mics across 8 years and the idea is to always provide the best possible performing experience in the moment - one that is enjoyable, joyous, validates and creatively free (no tutoring). One by-product of this approach is many young people return (some up to 70 times) and hone their skills over time to become veteran performers. They write original songs, make friends, form bands, learn new instruments and generally become very confident around performing on stage. For the volunteers at JOM, witnessing these journeys is a privilege.

The acts invited from JOM Junior & Youth Open Mic to perform at BROCKFEST are a mix of beginners to veterans. Some will be performing at their first event outside of JOM. For others (like the acts above) they’ve

The BROCKFEST festival budget is £0 - instead relying on favours, kindness and 40 volunteers. As word spreads, we anticipate further opportunities which can incorporated into the festival to uplift the experience for the acts involved.

In addition to some epic music, the indoor market is for young entrepreneurs to sell their products and hone business skills. Stalls include -
3D Luca - an on demand print service - printing BROCKFEST embossed guitar picks.
Terrarium City - featuring hand-blown glass terrariums and beads.
Merch T-Shirt Stall - run by singer songwriter Shanelle Rudrigo (age 15) who has had Brockfest T-shirts printed and paid for them through savings from performing. She’s decided to donate profits to JOM. Shanelle, who is also a BBC Young Composer finalist, will also step up on stage for her 30th performance with JOM.
