Adam Beattie

Scottish singer-songwriter and guitarist Adam Beattie has become a celebrated artist of the London
scene. He has released 5 solo self-penned albums. Having roots in Scottish folk music, as well as a
lifelong interest in old time jazz and blues, Adam’s music is held together by his distinctive voice,
narrative lyrics and fingerstyle guitar. An early break saw him opening for folk guitar legend Bert
Jansch at the O2 ABC in Glasgow.
Adam has built a strong fan base in London where he now lives, including selling out Hoxton Hall
(292 capacity) for his album launch. And he tours regularly in the UK where he has a good following in
Bristol, Kent, Devon, Cornwall and elsewhere.
Adam has also played many UK festivals including Cambridge Folk Festival, Purbeck Valley Folk
Festival, Broadstairs Folk Festival and Larmer Tree Festival. And with folk collective Band Of
Burns (alongside Ríoghnach Connolly and The Langan Band) he has played the main stage of
Shrewsbury Folk Festival and The Barrowlands and The Old Fruitmarket for Celtic
Connections. The collective also sold out the Union Chapel three years in a row 2017-2019.
Beattie has recently released his brand new solo album 'Somewhere Round The Bend' on 12" and
CD which has received praise from the likes of Mojo Magazine describing it as "Uplifting reveries of
love and loss through romantic balladry", Line Of Best Fit calling it "Stirring Folk Balladry" and Loud
And Quiet Magazine awarding it 8/10 and claiming "The album is mesmeric". The album was also
championed by BBC Radio Scotland presenter Roddy Hart, who featured it as his 'Record Of Note'
and invited Adam to speak on the show and curate a selection of songs as his 'Me-In-3' guest.
'Somewhere Round The Bend' came fresh off the back of his Rough Trade Records release with
PicaPica, a collaboration album with Grammy nominated producer Sonny Johns, BBC Folk Singer Of
The Year Josienne Clarke, and singer-songwriter Samantha Whates, as well as his Scottish
supergroup Band Of Burns’ latest release being named ‘Album Of The Month’ in Mojo Magazine (4
stars) and BBC Music Magazine (5 stars). Band Of Burns also performed two live sessions on Sean
Rafferty’s BBC Radio 3 show ‘In Tune’. After four studio albums collaborating with notable producers,
this new record sees Beattie at the helm for the first time, on fire as a multi-instrumentalist, arranger
and producer.
Over his years of extensive European touring and festival appearances, Adam has played opening
shows for many of his musical heroes; Bert Jansch, Jolie Holland, Michael Chapman and Sean
Hayes.
As a multi-instrumentalist accompanist he has recently played guitar and bass for global
singer-songwriter star Birdy (Atlantic Records) and 60’s star Lulu.
The new album features drums from Mercury nominated Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Patti Smith,
Adele), double bass from Fred Thomas (ECM Records), backing vocals from multi-platinum
singer-songwriter Fiona Bevan (Lewis Capaldi, Billie Marten, Matthew E. White), as well as Adam’s
regular badass bandmates Marco Quarantotto, Zac Gvirtzmann and Filippo Ferazzoli. Adam is also a
regular collaborator of english folk fiddle player Mikey Kenney (Vinicio Capposela, Alabaster
dePlume) and Scottish fiddle player Alastair Caplin (The Langan Band).
Adam is currently working on his new solo album. The first few songs are a continuation of the
Scottish folk sound he has developed, with strong melodies usually played on the violin and narratives
on the theme of home and our relationship to where we are from.
